A New Obsession: Battlestar Galactica

a friend of mine got me a $30 iTunes gift certificate, so i decided to try the much acclaimed Battlestar Galactica mini-series i had heard so much about. i figured, hey, it's not my own money, it's supposedly self-contained (i wouldn't be left hanging as badly as if i just tried a few of the series episodes, and if it sucks, i just move on.

oh... my... frackin'... GOD.

so this is what the story is capable of if given a channel that cares about it, a budget, some star power (not that lorne greene and dirk benedict weren't stars... but i just could not look at them in the 80's as a kid in reruns and not think Bonanza and The A-Team), and some leeway to make the entire story as dark as you would expect from a plotline developed from a human extinction agenda.

needless to say (but i will anyway), i will be buying the first season TONIGHT in its entirety (which is actually quite a deal... less than $30 for 20 episodes that normal run $2 a pop on the iTMS (iTunes Music Store). i only hope the actual series lives up to what i have seen so far in the mini-series.

I'm through three episodes of the first season. You won't be dissapointed.

Hopefully I'll get to watch a bunch when I'm trapped in a hotel next week.

i liked voyager during its run (which, yeah, i know, i''m in small company there), but i wonder if it would have been better received if it had taken THIS type of route for its storyline. the desperation, the betrayal, the death and destruction (and actual 3D space combat), etc.

I am totally and completely HOOKED. Justin began watching regularly but I began watching and now we are both just amazed at the characterization and complexity of the story lines, as well as applicability to modern day issues in the news. As Justin commented, they pack more story telling into one episode, than many shows do in an entire season.
