Ouch...

well, my first significant bicycle accident happened yesterday, new route near home, and at the bottom of a hill, i had a choice, either brake to fast and go over the handlebars, keep going straight and into a ravine, or, as i did, ditch it hard on the pavement with a frantic (and failed) attempt at turning quickly and thereby jack-knifing.

i hit the paved path on my glasses, which jammed back into my face, slicing open the area above my left cheekbone, all the way around my eye (and in a bit of gross out, the skin flap got stuck in between the lens and the frame, which then pinched shut). bruised my upper lip and chipped my tooth. and, as the next day would reveal, i also landed on my right knee, which is now swollena nd bruised. and living in a house with three stories to traverse every day. ugh.

unfortunately, there wasn't enough skin at the scrape-point to sew shut, so i will be scarring around my left eye when all is said and done. luckily, robin's extended health coverage can handle some of the fix-up work on my tooth, and the rest... well, i look like i got hit by a 2x4, but i'll be okay. the several mile walk home was sucky, though. the gear changer on my bike looks to be shot, too. and my nice new glasses, while not shattering (thank god), were bent mightily out of shape. still usuable as a spare pair, but i guess i need to look into another pair asap.

bleh. no crying for me, though. my own stupid fault, and the pain will be a lesson learned for future reference.
